Education Projects

We are passionate about education and support many education projects around the world.

UK: Education Outreach

We collaborate with other Cambridge businesses to nurture long-term partnerships with schools, with a particular focus on ‘work aspiration’ for students who can most benefit from contact with working role models.

UK Publishing Open Day

Australia: Aurukun School Library

The Australia office participated in the rebuilding of the Aurukun School Library, a school in the indigenous community of Aurukun, by donating books.

Brazil: Bookstep

The Bookstep programme provides educational opportunities to underprivileged students through book donations. To date, we have donated 63,565 books and CDs to 258 social projects in Brazil.

India: Make a Difference

We have been partnering with Make a Difference (MAD) since 2010 to bring high quality English learning materials to the poorest children. This youth volunteer network provides quality education to children living in orphanages and street shelters.

Make a difference project in India

It was started by a group of college students and now has a teacher network of over 800 college students and young professionals. We support MAD by supplying books at close to cost price, and have lent expertise to the programme’s development. 3,500 children have benefited from the programme since the Press joined.

South Africa: CIDA, Robertson Farm Schools and Scholarships

We recently celebrated our third year as partner with CIDA Empowerment Fund (CEF), whose sole objective is to deliver quality education to economically and socially disadvantaged black South Africans. In South Africa 25 per cent of our profits go to CIDA, which goes towards students gaining business degrees.

CIDA Graduation day

We support two farm schools located in Robertson, Western Cape. Over the years we have provided school shirts, school shoes, Christmas gifts and books for each school.

We provide scholarship funds which contribute towards students being able to attend the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences in South Africa. This in turn enables them to take on the challenge of higher degrees in world-renowned universities. To date 305 students from 30 African countries have graduated from the Postgraduate Diploma programme.

USA: Ronald Mansbridge Fund

Our offices in America have set up an educational fund in memory of Ronald Mansbridge, the founding Director of the Americas branch. The fund is used to sponsor scholarships for Westchester Community College’s (WCC) Study Abroad Program at the University of Cambridge.

Work Experience

Many of our offices around the world offer work experience to school and university students, usually through their institutions, and occasionally on an individual basis. Last year, students in the UK, Australia, the Philippines and Thailand benefited from the skills and insights they gained from their work experience.

In 2011, we were awarded a UK 'Big Tick' by Business in the Community for our 'Work Inspiration' programme. The Press also encourages colleagues to visit schools and libraries to give talks and practical workshops on their areas of expertise.
