Cambridge University Press and Chinese Laser Press to launch open access journal

Chinese Laser Press and Cambridge University Press have announced that they will be launching a new open access journal from 2013.

The new journal, High Power Laser Science and Engineering (HPLaser), will be an online-only (printed version available only in China), international and peer-reviewed journal focusing on all aspects of high power laser science and engineering. HPLaser will be dedicated to strengthening the exchange of information in this area.

HPLaser covers topics in both physics and engineering, and aims to be the leading international journal combining high power laser science and engineering. The journal will build on the need to strengthen information exchange in the area of high power lasers, with research of the highest quality and act as an academic forum for scientists and engineers in this field to share their latest discoveries.

For the first year, Cambridge University Press and Chinese Laser Press will waive publication costs, and after this a low article processing charge (APC) of £1,000/$1,500 will be set.

Ms Yang, General Manager at Chinese Laser Press, said: 'It is a great opportunity to collaborate with Cambridge University Press to establish HPLaser, which will provide a new and important chance for scientists to publish their significant research results in high power laser fields, and the collaboration combines the advantages of both parties in publishing, marketing, and other areas.'

Katy Christomanou, Publishing Director for STM at Cambridge University Press, said: 'Cambridge University Press is delighted to be part of this new venture with the Shanghai Institute for Optics and Fine Mechanics, and its affiliated company Chinese Laser Press. There have been great advances in this field over recent years, and Chinese researchers have been an integral part of the international collaborations behind that progress. It is fitting that the first journal dedicated to the science and engineering of high power lasers is the product of an international partnership, and is an open access publication, making it freely available to all.'

High Power Laser Science and Engineering will be hosted on Cambridge’s industry leading platform, Cambridge Journals Online (CJO), and Chinese Laser Press’s journal online platform (www.opticsjournal.net). Content will be available online from the beginning of 2013. All articles will be handled according to the highest standards of peer-review and produced to the high quality production values associated with Cambridge University Press. The journal will publish original articles, rapid communications (letters), invited reviews and comments.
