Cambridge University Press concludes sale of West Nyack warehouse

Cambridge University Press has concluded the sale of its US warehouse and distribution facility in West Nyack to property company RM MAG West Nyack LLC.

The sale forms the latest in a series of strategic changes the Press is making as a result of the increasing importance of digital technologies to its business.

These changes include supplying more content in electronic format, print-on-demand and printing titles closer to the markets in which they are sold.

This shift to digital and the need for more flexibility also saw the Press enter into a long-term logistics management agreement with Ingram Publisher Services, Inc. in 2012, so that Ingram now manages the warehousing and distribution of the Press’s US printed inventory from their center in La Vergne, Tennessee.

The sale of the West Nyack warehouse facility and the logistics management agreement with Ingram means that the Press is well positioned to provide its high-quality content to its customers regardless of the speed of future shifts in technology.

Sandra Waterhouse, Global Director of Operations at the Press, said: ‘Over the past few years, the publishing industry has been in a state of transition, migrating from physical to digital distribution of content, and printing closer to the markets where the products are sold.

‘This sale, and the continuing arrangement with Ingram, allows us to have greater flexibility in the long term, which is great news for our customers as it means we are able to deliver a really dynamic range of both print and digital products.’

An integral part of the warehouse sale agreement was the lease-back of approximately 19,000 square feet of office space which will continue to house the Press’s customer support department, as well as other back-office staff.

The Press’s main editorial offices in North America remain at 32 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.
