Press's new ELT and Education bookshop opens

The Cambridge University Press bookshop has been running a specialist Education and English Language Teaching shop in the heart of historic Cambridge for ten years. After undergoing a refurbishment, this part of the bookshop has been transformed into a modern, welcoming space complete with touch screens that place the Press's huge catalogue of books and teaching materials at people's fingertips. 

The new technology adds to the help and advice offered by colleagues working in the bookshop.

Alastair Lynn, Sales Development Manager, said: “Our specialist staff are our greatest resource. Backed by the new technology and with the welcoming environment the revamp has created, they're now in an even better position to make sure our customers get the products and the advice they need."

Books have been sold from the shop's Trinity Street location since at least 1581, making it the oldest bookselling site in Britain. The Press moved in almost 30 years ago and in 2008 expanded around the corner into Market Hill to open the Education and English Language Teaching shop. The shop showcases the Press's Education and English Language Teaching content under one roof.  

For English language teacher and long-standing customer, John Shedden, it is “a bookshop like no other, anywhere”. 

He said: “It is a stimulating place for aspirant teachers and learners alike. Well-printed books, sorted by subject, in support of English and International curricula, are displayed on the open shelves, facilitating browsing, evaluation and comparison, while the staff are at once knowledgeable and unfailingly helpful.” 

Paul Colbert, acting joint Managing Director of the Press’s English Language Teaching Group, said: “Our books and materials enable people to succeed by providing the best learning and research solutions. They are informed and enriched by the huge store of world-class research and insights of colleagues in the Press, in Cambridge Assessment and the wider University. 

"Our aim is to support customers through continually improved content, experiences and care. The shop is a fantastic showcase for that approach. We want to encourage people to come in, to see what's on offer and to take advantage of the expert help and advice that's available. It is a great resource for teachers and learners – in Cambridge and beyond."
