Touchstone Teacher Support Site
This teacher support site is designed to complement the teaching of Touchstone, an innovative four-level series for adult and young adult learners of English. Touchstone is a corpus-informed course, drawing on extensive analysis of the Cambridge International Corpus, a large database of conversations and written texts that show how people actually use English.
Created by teachers, the Grammar Presentations and Worksheets are innovative materials that provide in-class support for the Grammar activities in Touchstone.
The Student’s Book Overview takes you through a typical Touchstone unit, highlighting the book's unique features. The overview appears in every Student's Book in English, but we present it here in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish as well. You can download and print an overview for students who may wish to read this information but find the descriptions difficult to understand in English. To view the entire course syllabus, you can select the Scope and Sequence for each of the four levels. The Frequently Asked Questions section is a good place to learn more about the corpus-informed approach and other key pedagogic features of the course, such as vocabulary-learning strategies and strategies for managing conversations. In Corpus-Related Materials, you can read a more in-depth discussion of corpus research, as it relates to the development of Touchstone, in an article by Michael McCarthy, and access corpus-related websites through the links provided.
We will continue to add features to this site, and we welcome your feedback. Please send your comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
