Objective:
The global prevalence of persons living with dementia will soon exceed 50 million. Most of these individuals reside in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In South Africa, one such LMIC, the physician-to-patient ratio of 9:10 000 severely limits the capacity of clinicians to screen, assess, diagnose, and treat dementias. One way to address this limitation is by using mobile health (mHealth) platforms to scale-up neurocognitive testing. In this paper, we describe one such platform, a brief tablet-based cognitive assessment tool (NeuroScreen) that can be administered by lay health-providers. It may help identify patients with cognitive impairment (related, for instance, to dementia) and thereby improve clinical care and outcomes. However, there is a lack of data regarding (a) the acceptability of this novel technology for delivery of neurocognitive assessments in LMIC-resident older adults, and (b) the influence of technology-use experience on NeuroScreen performance of LMIC-resident older adults. This study aimed to fill that knowledge gap, using a sample of cognitively impaired South African older adults.
Participants and Methods:Participants were 60 older adults (63.33% female; 91.67% right-handed; age M = 68.90 years, SD = 9.42, range = 50-83), all recruited from geriatric and memory clinics in Cape Town, South Africa. In a single 1-hour session, they completed the entire NeuroScreen battery (Trail Making, Number Speed, Finger Tapping, Visual Discrimination, Number Span Forward, Number Span Backward, List Learning, List Recall) as well as a study-specific questionnaire assessing acceptability of NeuroScreen use and overall experience and comfort with computer-based technology. We summed across 11 questionnaire items to derive a single variable capturing technology-use experience, with higher scores indicating more experience.
Results:Almost all participants (93.33%) indicated that NeuroScreen was easy to use. A similar number (90.00%) indicated they would be comfortable completing NeuroScreen at routine doctor's visits. Only 6.67% reported feeling uncomfortable using a tablet, despite about three-quarters (76.67%) reporting never having used a tablet with a touchscreen before. Almost one in five participants (18.33%) reported owning a computer, 10.00% a tablet, and 70.00% a smartphone. Correlations between test performance and technology-use experience were statistically significant (or strongly tended toward significance) for most NeuroScreen subtests that assessed higherorder cognitive functioning and that required the participant to manipulate the tablet themselves: Trail Making 2 (a measure of cognitive switching ability), r = .24, p = .05; Visual Discrimination A (complex processing speed [number-symbol matching]), r = .38, p = .002; Visual Discrimination B (pattern recognition), r = .37, p = .004; Number Speed (simple information processing speed), r = .36, p = .004. For the most part, there were no such significant associations when the NeuroScreen subtest required only verbal input from the participant (i.e., on the list learning and number span tasks).
Conclusions:NeuroScreen, a tablet-based neurocognitive screening tool, appears feasible for use among older South Africans, even if they are cognitively impaired and have limited technological familiarity. However, test performance might be influenced by amount of technology-use experience; clinicians using the battery must consider this in their interpretations.

We present a multi-frequency study of the intermediate spiral SAB(r)bc type galaxy NGC 6744, using available data from the Chandra X-Ray telescope, radio continuum data from the Australia Telescope Compact Array and Murchison Widefield Array, and Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer infrared observations. We identify 117 X-ray sources and 280 radio sources. Of these, we find nine sources in common between the X-ray and radio catalogues, one of which is a faint central black hole with a bolometric radio luminosity similar to the Milky Way’s central black hole. We classify 5 objects as supernova remnant (SNR) candidates, 2 objects as likely SNRs, 17 as H ii regions, 1 source as an AGN; the remaining 255 radio sources are categorised as background objects and one X-ray source is classified as a foreground star. We find the star-formation rate (SFR) of NGC 6744 to be in the range 2.8–4.7 M⊙~yr − 1 signifying the galaxy is still actively forming stars. The specific SFR of NGC 6744 is greater than that of late-type spirals such as the Milky Way, but considerably less that that of a typical starburst galaxy.

Summary
Summary
Grooming disorders, such as trichotillomania (TTM), nail biting, and skin picking, are receiving increasing attention from researchers and clinicians. This is in part due to their possible link to obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). It is imperative that these disorders are categorized correctly in order to facilitate research and aid diagnosis and treatment. However, within current psychiatric classification systems TTM is currently conceptualized as an impulse control disorder and nail biting, lip biting, and skin picking are not yet included in the official nomenclature. It is therefore unclear whether these grooming disorders should form a category on their own (i.e., “grooming disorders” or “pathological grooming behaviors”), or whether they should be classified as obsessive–compulsive spectrum disorders (OCSD), impulse control disorders, or as body-focused repetitive behaviors. This chapter will discuss these diagnostic and taxonomic issues particularly as they pertain to clinical practice, fostering further discussion on the psychopathology of aberrant grooming behaviors.
Introduction
The positioning of TTM and other conditions characterized by self-directed repetitive behaviors (e.g., nail biting and pathological skin picking [PSP]) within existing psychiatric classification systems has recently been debated (e.g., Stein et al. 2007). Trichotillomania is classified in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR; APA, 2000) as an impulse control disorder. However, some researchers suggest that TTM is an OCSD (Swedo and Leonard 1992).

The use of multifocal-plane, time-lapse recordings of living specimens has allowed investigators to visualize dynamic events both within ensembles of cells and individual cells. Recordings of such four-dimensional (4D) data from digital optical sectioning microscopy produce very large data sets. We describe a wavelet-based data compression algorithm that capitalizes on the inherent redunancies within multidimensional data to achieve higher compression levels than can be obtained from single images. The algorithm will permit remote users to roam through large 4D data sets using communication channels of modest bandwidth at high speed. This will allow animation to be used as a powerful aid to visualizing dynamic changes in three-dimensional structures.

LTCC substrates for fine pitch (1.0 mm and 0.8 mm) CSP applications have been designed, fabricated, and assembled. The assembly process, including ball grid array (BGA) solder ball attach, die mount, wire bond, and glob top is described. The material and physical design interaction issues that emerged during development are discussed.
The initial CSP design was conventional, with co-fired yellow gold (Au) vias and capture pads and post-fired solderable gold (PtPdAu) pads for solder ball attachment. Because LTCC tape shrinks during co-fire, solder pads were applied post co-fire to ensure proper mating with existing test fixtures and to provide the best alignment relative to the CSP body. Solder pad to capture pad misalignment was visible following solder pad firing. After CSP attachment to a test board, electrical tests revealed opens. Investigation led to the following conclusions. The decreased solder pad diameter necessary to accommodate the fine pitch design was significant relative to the area allocated for the underlying via and capture pad. Misalignment that would have been hidden under larger solder pads was exposed. Even when the capture pad surface was not visibly exposed, the offset solder pad meant less material between the capture pad and the solder ball, less of a barrier to solder leaching. Solder leaching into the yellow gold, observed after CSP removal from the test board, was the cause of the electrical disconnects. In the second design, the capture pad was eliminated in order to discourage leaching by reducing the volume of yellow gold available to alloy with the solder pad during co-fire. Reflow operations still resulted in leached solder pads. A third design replaced the first-layer via yellow gold with a solderable gold. This design proved to be robust.
While developing designs and fabricating these prototypes, it was noted that all ball failures consistently occurred between the solder pad and the LTCC substrate. To investigate adhesion using different metallizations, shear tests were performed on LTCC substrates with either post-fired solder pads or co-fired pads. To investigate how the substrate material affects adhesion, alumina CSPs were also sheared. Shear test results are presented.
