Objective:
INDUCT (Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Using Current Technology), and DISTINCT (Dementia Inter-sectorial strategy for training and innovation network for current technology) are two Marie Sklodowska-Curie funded International Training Networks that aimed to develop a multi-disciplinary, inter-sectorial educational research framework for Europe to improve technology and care for people with dementia, and to provide the evidence to show how technology can improve the lives of people with dementia.
Methods:In INDUCT (2016-2020) 15 Early Stage Researchers worked on projects in the areas of Technology to support everyday life; technology to promote meaningful activities; and healthcare technology. In DISTINCT (2019-2023) 15 Early Stage Researchers worked on technology to promote Social health in three domains: fulfilling ones potential and obligations in society, managing one’s own life, and participation in social and other meaningful activities.
Both networks adopted three transversal objectives: 1) To determine practical, cognitive and social factors needed to make technology more useable for people with dementia; 2) To evaluate the effectiveness of specific contemporary technology; 3) To trace facilitators and barriers for implementation of technology in dementia care.
Results:The main recommendations resulting from all research projects are integrated in a web-based digital Best Practice Guidance on Human Interaction with Technology in Dementia which was recently updated (Dec 2022 and June 2023) and will be presented at the congress. The recommendations are meant for different target groups, i.e. people in different stages of dementia, their (in)formal carers, policy makers, designers and researchers, who can easily find the recommendations relevant to them in the Best Practice Guidance by means of a digital selection tool.
Conclusions:The INDUCT/DISTINCT Best Practice Guidance informs on how to improve the development, usage, impact and implementation of technology for people with dementia in various technology areas. This Best Practice Guidance is the result of intensive collaborative partnership of INDUCT and DISTINCT with academic and non-academic partners as well as the involvement of representatives of the different target groups throughout the projects.

Objective:
The stria terminalis (ST) is a white matter tract with connections to limbic and autonomic brain structures that is implicated in affective functioning. Recent works suggests that ST functional integrity and connectivity is associated with faster responses to emotional cues (Dzafic et al., 2019) and may be influenced by environmental factors including socioeconomic status (SES) and childhood adversity (Banihashemi et al., 2020). The role of the ST in the experience of more daily affective experiences, such as depressive symptoms, remains unexplored. Therefore, the present study examined the role of the ST and SES, as assessed by household income, in the relationship between age and depressive symptoms in typically developing children and adolescents.
Participants and Methods:Participants include 64 typically developing children and adolescents age 8-21 (Mage=13.27, SD=3.15) who participated in an ongoing study of development of neurocognitive and social-cognitive skills. Participants completed imaging on a 3Tesla MR Siemens PRISMA scanner. Tractography was executed via ENIGMA tract-based spatial statistics to quantify WM integrity and provided values for mean fractional anisotropy (mFA) of the ST. Depressive symptoms were measured with the Behavior Assessment Scale for Children-Third Edition (BASC-3) parent report scale, and annual family income was obtained per parent report. Mediation and moderation analyses were conducted using Process version 4.1 (Hayes, 2022) in SPSS version 28. As depression symptoms are often higher in early adolescence than later, we examined the indirect effect of age on depressive symptoms through ST mFA and evaluated this relationship at different levels of family income.
Results:Age was associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms (b=-.98, t=-2.18, p<.05), whereas greater right ST mFA was associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms (b=42.05, t=2.50, p<.05). Right ST mFA explained significant variance in the relationship between age and parent-reported depression (ab=.13, 95% CI [.02, .29]). The conditional indirect effect of family income was significant for children with annual family incomes between 25-50k (effect=.16, 95% CI [.01, .38]) and 75-100k (effect=.13, 95% CI [.001, .31]), but not for 100k+ (effect=.11, 95% CI [-.05, .33]).
Conclusions:The present study revealed a significant, positive relationship between white matter integrity in the right ST and parent-reported depressive symptoms in healthy children and young adults. Finding extend on prior work implicating the ST in threat responsivity (Dzafic et al., 2019). Moreover,results suggest the role of the ST in the relationship between age and depression depends on level of family income, such that ST mFA explains more variance at lower income levels, and is no longer significant for children from families with income greater than 100k. These findings support the notion that environmental stressors (such as lower family income) may strengthen ST pathways via activity-dependent plasticity and repeated, coordinated activation (Rinaman et al., 2011). Future studies should examine these brain-behavior associations, as they may replicate in a larger sample, with more nuanced indicators of environmental stress.

We summarize what we assess as the past year's most important findings within climate change research: limits to adaptation, vulnerability hotspots, new threats coming from the climate–health nexus, climate (im)mobility and security, sustainable practices for land use and finance, losses and damages, inclusive societal climate decisions and ways to overcome structural barriers to accelerate mitigation and limit global warming to below 2°C.
Technical summaryWe synthesize 10 topics within climate research where there have been significant advances or emerging scientific consensus since January 2021. The selection of these insights was based on input from an international open call with broad disciplinary scope. Findings concern: (1) new aspects of soft and hard limits to adaptation; (2) the emergence of regional vulnerability hotspots from climate impacts and human vulnerability; (3) new threats on the climate–health horizon – some involving plants and animals; (4) climate (im)mobility and the need for anticipatory action; (5) security and climate; (6) sustainable land management as a prerequisite to land-based solutions; (7) sustainable finance practices in the private sector and the need for political guidance; (8) the urgent planetary imperative for addressing losses and damages; (9) inclusive societal choices for climate-resilient development and (10) how to overcome barriers to accelerate mitigation and limit global warming to below 2°C.

Adequate vitamin B12 (B12) and folate concentrations are essential for neural development in early childhood, but studies in well-nourished children are lacking. We investigated the relation between plasma B12 and folate at 9 and 36 months and psychomotor development at 36 months in well-nourished Danish children. Subjects from the SKOT cohorts with B12 measurement and completed Ages and Stages Questionnaire, 3rd edition (ASQ-3) at 36 months were included (n 280). Dietary intake, B12 and folate concentrations were collected at 9 and 36 months, and ASQ-3 was assessed at 36 months. Associations between B12 and folate at 9 and 36 months and ASQ-3 were analysed using regression models. Associations between diet and B12 were also investigated. No children had insufficient B12 (<148 pmol/l) at 36 months. B12 at 36 month was positively associated with total ASQ-3 corresponding to an increase of 100 pmol/l B12 per 1·5 increase in total ASQ-3 score (P = 0·019) which remained significant after adjustment for potential confounders including 9 months values. B12 at 9 months or folate at any time point was not associated with total ASQ-3. Intake of milk products was associated with B12 at 36 months (P = 0·003) and showed a trend at 9 months (P = 0·069). Intake of meat products was not associated with B12. In conclusion, B12 was positively related to psychomotor development at 3 years in well-nourished children, indicating that the impact of having marginally low B12 status on psychomotor development in well-nourished children should be examined further.
Autonomic activity, posttraumatic and nontraumatic nightmares, and PTSD after trauma exposure

Background
Nightmares are a hallmark symptom of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This strong association may reflect a shared pathophysiology in the form of altered autonomic activity and increased reactivity. Using an acoustic startle paradigm, we investigated the interrelationships of psychophysiological measures during wakefulness and PTSD diagnosis, posttraumatic nightmares, and nontraumatic nightmares.
MethodsA community sample of 122 trauma survivors were presented with a series of brief loud tones, while heart rate (HRR), skin conductance (SCR), and orbicularis oculi electromyogram (EMGR) responses were measured. Prior to the tone presentations, resting heart rate variability (HRV) was assessed. Nightmares were measured using nightmare logs. Three dichotomous groupings of participants were compared: (1) current PTSD diagnosis (n = 59), no PTSD diagnosis (n = 63), (2) those with (n = 26) or without (n = 96) frequent posttraumatic nightmares, and (3) those with (n = 22) or without (n = 100) frequent nontraumatic nightmares.
ResultsPTSD diagnosis was associated with posttraumatic but not with nontraumatic nightmares. Both PTSD and posttraumatic nightmares were associated with a larger mean HRR to loud tones, whereas nontraumatic nightmare frequency was associated with a larger SCR. EMGR and resting HRV were not associated with PTSD diagnosis or nightmares.
ConclusionsOur findings suggest a shared pathophysiology between PTSD and posttraumatic nightmares in the form of increased HR reactivity to startling tones, which might reflect reduced parasympathetic tone. This shared pathophysiology could explain why PTSD is more strongly related to posttraumatic than nontraumatic nightmares, which could have important clinical implications.

The main aim of the Best Practice Guidance is to improve the development, usage and implementation of technology for people with dementia in the three mentioned technology areas.
This Best Practice Guidance is the result of the intensive collaborative partnership of INDUCT with academic and non-academic partners as well as the involvement of representatives of the different target groups throughout the INDUCT project.

Summary
Introduction
This chapter is co-written by two people committed to adding the voice of community partners to the debate about the value of community–university research partnerships (CUPs). Our focus is on research partnerships and we are using the CUP acronym as shorthand. Within the UK there have been strong developments in supporting more sustained partnerships between universities and communities. The organisations we represent are at the forefront of these initiatives. Kim Aumann is a community practitioner with 12 years’ experience of CUP working in the UK and abroad, and was involved in setting up the UK Community Partner Network (UKCPN), and Sophie Duncan is Deputy Director of the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), which works to support universities to engage more effectively with the public, including providing international consultancy services and hosting the UKCPN.
We believe that tapping into the experience and perspectives of community partners can help us improve the benefits of CUP working (Aumann, Duncan and Hart, 2014). Our work is internationally linked, while having a UK focus. To proactively explore how to encourage, support and facilitate effective use of CUPs to benefit society, between us we have conducted focused consultations and events with community partners (and academics); met and spoken with hundreds of community partners both in the UK and internationally; participated in international networks, including Community Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH), the Living Knowledge Network, Global University Network for Innovation, Community Based Research Canada, UNESCO Chairs for Community Based Research, and Global Alliance for Community Engaged Research; worked with research funders; and facilitated national CUP projects. It is this direct experience and our reflections on practice that we draw on here.
Our chapter is addressed to community partners and academics interested in CUP working. We are convinced that this way of working can produce more than individual partners can achieve on their own. However, we are conscious of the need to get better at articulating and evidencing the value and legacies of these ways of working if we are going to help protect the future of this form of knowledge creation and use. It is important that CUPs are an effective and appropriate use of public funding and that they do what they say they will do in a way that inspires confidence.
