Praha, 22.5.2008, 14:30 - 16:00, seminář Teaching Toward FCE and CAE Writing Papers
Místo konání: Jazyková škola Channel Crossings, Lazarská 8/13E, Praha 2
Seminář povede: Joe Veeser
Teaching Toward FCE and CAE Writing Papers
All the papers -- with the exception of the speaking paper -- are set to be changed this year. Some parts are being dropped
and others added. In general the test will be shorter. In the first part of the seminar we will look at these changes and
why they are being introduced.
The larger part of the seminar will be an activity-driven workshop where we will briefly outline how to go about teaching
toward the Cambridge tests in general and then focus on teaching towards the writing paper. Writing (along with speaking)
are the areas where the students can easily improve immensely in a relatively short time but they can’t do this without a
little help. At the same time writing is also an area that teachers tend not to stress or tend to leave to homework. I think
this is a mistake. We will look at classroom activities and techniques for improving your student´ writing.
Joe Veeser has been teaching English since 1993 and has been the Head Teacher at Channel Crossings since 2001, where he has been in charge of teacher development. He has also given workshops as a guest lecturer at other schools in the Czech Republic and at various ESL conferences. He believes that teaching theory and technique generally flow from actual activities and their management in the classroom (or in one-on-one situations) and has accordingly produced numerous new activities and games. His workshops, accordingly, tend to be interactive and activity-driven.
