Award for Grammar Book
The prestigious English-Speaking
Union Duke of Edinburgh's English Language Award 2000 has been awarded
to a grammar book for teachers, Grammar for English Language Teachers,
by Martin Parrott and published by Cambridge University Press. The book
was chosen from over 30 entries by a panel chaired by Lord Randolph Quirk.
The award is made annually for the best and most innovative work in the
field of teaching or learning the English language.
The panel said "The
book fills a gap in the market. Mostly grammar books approach the language
from a student's perspective. This approaches it from a teacher's point
of view and gains much insight for doing so."
The prize was presented
by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at a special ceremony held in Buckingham
Palace, and attended by author, Martin Parrott and the Senior Commissioning
Editor, Alison Sharpe.
