What

What other drinks are typical in your country? Are they hot or cold
drinks? How much do they cost?
Have you ever drunk something unusual from a foreign country?
Teacher's
notes
Using
authentic statistics about Coca-Cola, students gain practice in
the comparative and superlative and can talk about different countries.
The extract from a sales presentation, provides practice in the
superlative, and an emphasis on useful written expressions, eg.
"in contrast" and "however".
A.
Ask ss to form pairs. Model the first question with a student. Check
that they know all the vocabulary. Students begin the questionnaire
in pairs.
Elicit their personal answers to find who drinks the most Coca-cola
in the class.
B.
Encourage students to predict which country drinks the most
Coca-cola in the world. Students look at the chart to see the statistics.
Elicit any reactions they may have. Check their pronunciation of
the countries
D.
Direct the students back to the statistics. In order to prepare
them for the reading in section D, ask them some questions:
Which countries drink the most Coca-Cola? Are they hot or cold?
Are they rich or poor?
Which countries drink the least? Are they hot or cold? Rich or poor?
Do you think that climate and money affect the sales of Coca-Cola?
Explain
that someone is making an analysis of the Coca-Cola sales. Some
words are missing. Make sure that the students understand the words
above the text. Tell students to read the text silently. Then get
them to fill in the gaps and compare their answers. Read the full
presentation aloud.
Invite
students to give their opinions - do they agree with the presenter?
