Teacher's
notes
In
order to roleplay a meeting, ss first need some useful expressions
for typical functions, eg, giving opinions, making suggestions,
how to open and close a meeting, etc. Read the instructions aloud,
then present the different categories. It's best not to give any
definitions at this stage. Model the task using some words from
their list, eg, 'Why don't we ...?' is a suggestion. Ss continue
either in pairs or on their own. Model the pronunciation of each
expression and get ss to repeat after you. Give ss further practice
using the expressions. Eg, you want to make a suggestion - what
do you say?
B
Set
the scene. Eg, do you ever have visitors from other countries? What
do you think they should see in your city? Where should they eat?
Ss then look at the exercise. Clarify any uncertainties once they
have read the instructions. Ask ss to read the agenda quietly. Help
with vocabulary, eg, AOB means 'Any other business'. A suggestion
to go sightseeing should go under this.
Remind
your ss of the new expressions, eg, how do we begin a meeting? Start
the roleplay. Do not interrupt during the roleplay. If you hear
mistakes, simply take notes. Give feedback on errors after the roleplay.
D
Ask
students to summarize (orally) what they decided in the roleplay.
Point out the email and explain the instructions. Ss work in pairs.
They decide together which 6 points they should write in the email.
(Note: it is not necessary to write at this point.) Elicit feedback
from your students and note at least 6 sentences on the board. Students
choose 6 sentences to write in their email. Ss complete the email
with date, email address and a subject. Ss invite others in the
class to read the email.
