IATEFL 2008 - Did you help write a dictionary?
Conference delegates became lexicographers in training at IATEFL this year, thanks to Melissa Good and Patrick Gillard. In their talk on Tuesday 8th April, Patrick and Melissa invited the audience to consider the kind of information learners need and expect from a good learner dictionary, and then to create a typical dictionary entry.
All participants received a free copy of the brand new third edition of Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary, and a certificate to prove their 'trainee lexicographer' status!
This is the entry for the first sense of the verb punch, which was written by the audience in the talk 'Come and help us write a dictionary' at the 2008 IATEFL conference in Exeter, UK. Thank you very much to everyone who took part!
