Want to know what's happening in the world of business English? This week Eric talks about upcoming conferences and events for business English teachers.

BESIG, the IATEFL Business English Special Interest Group, has been busy and has announced three major events for 2008. Hopefully you'll be able to make it to at least one of those; they're always a great way of refreshing your teaching skills, meeting like-minded people, and getting out of the office/classroom/armchair.

The first one is a pre-conference event. Taking place in Exeter on 7th April, the day before the IATEFL conference, the theme of the day will be Business English: The Challenges of Globalisation. The line-up of speakers covers virtually all relevant angles including publishing, assessment, corporate training, marketing and, of course, the chalk-face. There's also time for an open discussion which is an excellent forum for bringing up any questions or comments you might have about how globalisation is changing what or how we teach business English.

The second event is a one-day joint event run with TESOL France titled Best of BESIG 2. Held in Paris on 7th June, this conference will feature talks on a wide range of business English related topics from speakers around the world.

The third is BESIG's flagship event, the annual conference. This year it will take place in Bonn, Germany, from 21st – 23rd November. Last year's conference had over 350 delegates and speakers and this year should be a good one as well.

For details on any of the events including Calls for Papers for Paris and Bonn please visit the BESIG website (www.besig.org ).

I'll be at all three events so if you're around why not say hello and let me know your impressions of this PEO website – I'm always on the lookout for new ideas and general feedback.

As you may recall from my last blog entry, last week the British Council Innovation Awards took place. As always the ceremony was excellent fun. The bubbly flowed, the company was great and the venue was as stylish as always. Unfortunately, neither Good Practice nor World Englishes won an award, but our congratulations go to the winners!

All the best

Eric
