When I’m teaching intermediate grammar, I like to elicit natural language from students. The following series of activities allows for some controlled (prepped) eliciting. It is blended with grammar consciousness raising, a type of grammar teaching in which students identify a pattern through noticing. As with most activities, these exercises can be done individually or in pairs and then reviewed as a class.
Note: My aim here is to review form and meaning, not teach articles for the first time. I would monitor during the practice and plan follow-up lessons that focused only on the problem areas.
