DVD-ROMs
There are three DVD-ROMs in i-learn: writing, each covering two school years:
Each text type has nine teaching focuses. Each focus contains a series of interactive activities.
Reading as a writer
By watching a video of the author talking about the writing process and through closer analysis of the model texts, children find out how to write a particular text type. The key features are summarised in a 'writer’s checklist'.
Talking the text type
Through a series of speaking and listening, and drama activities, children orally rehearse the language of the text type in preparation for writing.
Writing games
A lively mix of interactive writing games at word, sentence and text level to practise the language and features of the text type.
Stimulus and shared planning
This provides a visual, textual or multimedia stimulus to inspire shared planning while the notemaker comprises a variety of creative planning formats.
Demonstration and shared writing
After reviewing what they have learnt and watching the author giving some ‘top tips’, children take part in shared writing.
Editing
This provides three examples of children’s work at different levels for discussion and editing.
Independent planning and writing
A variety of visual, textual and multimedia stimuli provide a springboard for the children’s own writing.
