I have already installed the Mult-e-Maths Fractions strand and then tried to install the other strands. The new strands do not appear in the menu.

Cambridge-Hitachi released an updated version of the Fractions strand that replaced the older version published in early 2004. The new version was sent to all existing customers. The older version of Fractions will not work properly with the other strands. Uninstall the older version and install the newer version.

You can check that you have the right version of Fractions by looking on the CD. It should have V2.00 printed on the left hand side of the disc. If you have V1.00, and have not received a newer version, please email Customer Services at educustserve@cambridge.org.

I am getting an error message about Active content when I click on a link/I cannot access all parts of the program / When I try and use Mult-e-Maths, I keep getting an error message saying that my computer has restricted active content. I have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 has extra security settings which prevent many programs, including Mult-e-Maths, from running fully. To prevent these messages from appearing each time you use the product, you will have to allow active content to run on your PC. For your convenience, we have provided below an Active Content Manager. This will configure Internet Explorer for you to allow the content you require to run Mult-e-Maths.

Active Content Manager (zip file, 95Kb)

How to run the Active Content Manager:

  • Download the zip file above by clicking on the link
  • Save the zip file onto your computer
  • Start the program by double-clicking on the file ActiveContentManager.exe
    1. Go to the Security Zone section and select "My Computer"
    2. Check the "Use Administrator Approved Controls" check box. A dialog box will appear confirming that the approved list will be used. Click OK
    3. Check the box for 'Mult-e-Maths' in the Cambridge-Hitachi section
    4. Check the box for 'Macromedia Flash Player' in the Other section
    5. Click Save. A dialog box will appear confirming that the list has been saved. Click OK
  • Open Internet Explorer. In the Internet Explorer window choose: Tools > Internet Options
  • In the dialog box that is displayed, select the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security section
  • Make sure the check box marked 'Allow active content to run in files on my computer' is ticked
  • Click OK to save the change then close Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer and any other IE based software

Flash Player 8

Another possibility is that there is a security issue with Flash Player 8. If this is the case, then you need to follow the following instructions:

Flash configuration file (zip file, 1Kb)

  1. Copy the zip file on to the computer that has the problem
  2. Double click on the zip file and it will open as if it is a normal folder, and display a file called 'Flash Configuration'
  3. Double click on the Flash Configuration file. A black window will very briefly flash up on the screen. It is okay to do this more than once if you are not sure if it worked
  4. All that needs to be done now is start or restart Mult-e-Maths, and check that it is working
