Do I have to install the software on my computer in order to use it?
No. The program will run direct from the CD-ROM. On most computers, the program will start automatically. If you have auto-run turned off, or are running OSX you will need to start the program manually:
Using a PC: insert the disk, access the CD-ROM drive via the 'my computer' icon and double-click on the 7, 8 or 9 icon.
Using a Mac: insert the disk and double-click on the RCP7, 8 or 9 icon on the desktop. Then double-click on the 7, 8 or 9 screen icon to start the program.
How do I install the software on my computer?
Using a PC: select files and folders on the CD-ROM; copy the files; make a new folder on the desktop; paste the files into the new folder.
Using a Mac: make a new folder on the desktop. Drag the Reviewing and Checking Progress desktop icon into the new folder to create a copy.
Note: The product is sold for a single user, and is generally used with the disk in the computer. Be sure to check the terms and conditions for information on site licences before using the product. Do I need to have the CD-ROM in the computer once I have installed the software?
No, once the software has been installed, it does not require the CD-ROM to operate.
Will the software run on a network?
The CD can be loaded onto a school network, but at present it can only be accessed by one user at a time. Alternatively, it can be installed on multiple machines for use by multiple users at the same time. A separate site licence is required for this. I have a Mac G3 with the minimum specification listed on the packaging, but I can't get the software to load. Why is this?
The program will only operate with Mac OSX and later versions. This is stated on the information sheet inside the box. Unfortunately there is an error on the external packaging.
Are there any teacher notes to support the software?
Yes - there are notes on assessing pupil progress, model answers to aid marking and blank versions of the answer sheets. These are available on the internet site and are accessed through the home screen on the CD-ROM. To find them, first make sure that you are connected to the internet. Open the program and click on 'Teacher's Notes'. You will be connected to the Reviewing and Checking Progress website. Alternatively, go to the resources section of this website. A password is required to access these resources - this is provided in the booklet supplied with the disk.
Can I use Reviewing and Checking Progress with an interactive whiteboard?
Yes, Reviewing and Checking Progress can be used on the interactive whiteboard for whole class or small group work.
I want to save the results to monitor the progress of my pupils. How do I do this?
The best way to save results is to print off copies of your pupils' answer sheets when they have completed the activities. Alternatively, if you have a full version of 'Adobe Acrobat' you can save completed worksheets as PDF files. Reviewing and Checking Progress is not intended to be a formal assessment product, so it does not incorporate a results database.
My pupils want to have a record of their performance. How can they do this?
Your pupils can print off copies of completed work and retain this as a record of their performance, or as a aid for revision.
Can the activities be edited?
No, the activities can not be edited.
Can I use Reviewing and Checking Progress with more than one person at a time?
Yes, if the product has been installed on a number of separate machines, more than one person can use it at a time.
You will need to obtain the appropriate site licence.
I want to use the activities to generate a paper test for my pupils to do in class or at home. How can I do this?
The Teacher's notes section on the website contains blank answer sheets, allowing you to assess your pupils without using the computer.
Does this software run on an RM network?
This software does not support Community Connect 3 or other RM products.
