How do I install the software on my computer?

On most computers, the installation program will start automatically. If you have auto-run turned off, you will need to start the program manually: insert the disk, access the CD-ROM drive via the 'My Computer' icon and double-click on setup.exe. You will find more information about installing the program in the booklet which accompanies the CD-ROM.

Do I need to have the CD-ROM in the computer once I have installed the software?

You will be asked in the InstallShield Wizard whether you want a minimum or full installation. By default, the installer will copy all content to your hard drive – ‘full installation’; but you may also choose for the program to read the content from the disk itself – ‘minimum installation’. The latter option will require you to have the CD in the drive when running the program – it might be appropriate if you have very limited space on your hard drive.

I am trying to install Whole Class Teaching on a Windows 2003 server, but when I put the disc in I am getting the error message 'Data transfer error in cd drive.'

This error message may appear during network installation. The default location for installing the program onto the network is \\CambridgeHitachi. This needs to be amended to a valid path on your network or server. If this is not done, the installation will fail with the message 'Data Transfer Error'.

On Windows Vista, when I try to import/export from the Teacher File I cannot select a drive in Import step 1/Export step 2 because the drive menu list appears to be empty.

Please download the following zip file:

Teacher file (ZIP)

Unzip the file and copy the extracted file flashex.exe to the following location:

[teacher file installation location]\data\fscommand\ (where [teacher file installation location] is the folder where the Teacher File is installed)

The default installation location is C:\Program Files\CambridgeHitachi\Science Foundations\Teacher File.

The new flashex.exe file will overwrite the original one in the above location. You should then be able to see a list of all drives you have access to in the import/export wizard.
