Are the CD-ROMs designed for use with a particular type of interactive whiteboard?

No, the Storybook Phonics CD-ROMs will work on any interactive whiteboard, although they have enhanced features when used with the Cambridge Board from Hitachi.

Do I have to install the software on my computer to use it?

You have the option to either install the software or run it from the disk drive. If the software is installed you will not need the CD-ROM in the disk drive - just double click the icon from the desktop.

Can I use Storybook Phonics CD-ROMs on an interactive whiteboard?

Yes, they are suitable for use on an interactive whiteboard.

The font isn't aligned properly in some of the stories. Why might this be happening?

A problem with the font is most likely to be due to your user access. Follow these steps to correct the problem:

  • Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop
  • Double click on the 'Local Disk' icon
  • Double click on the 'Windows' folder
  • Right click on 'system 32' folder and choose 'properties'
  • Click on the 'security' tab
  • Tick the box that says 'full control'
  • If you are unable to tick 'full control' then you will need to speak to your system administrator, who will have control of your user access.

Are the stories on the CD-ROMs available in print?

Yes, each story is available to buy individually and you can download guided reading teacher notes and pupil worksheets from the Storybook Phonics website.

The CD-ROMs are numbered 1, 2 and 3. Does this refer to the year group?

No. Broadly, CD-ROM 1 is for Foundation, CD-ROM 2 is for Year 1 and CD-ROM 3 is for Year 2. However the stories lend themselves to a wider audience and are suitable for older children.

How could I use the CD-ROMs with an interactive whiteboard?

You could read the story with the whole class using the IWB and then the activities can be completed by pairs/individuals at a computer.

Windows Vista compatibility is not guaranteed for Storybook Phonics.
