About the author

Pam Peters is Director of the Dictionary Research Centre at Macquarie University, which fosters research and development projects in the fields of lexicography, lexicology and terminology in Australian and international English. Her interests in variable points of English are reflected in the Cambridge Australian English Style Guide (Cambridge University Press 1995). She has led the compilation of computer corpora of Australian English (ACE and ICE-AUS), which are available as research tools at the Dictionary Research Centre, along with sample corpora from other varieties of English. Her lexical interests are also invested in membership of the editorial board of the Macquarie Dictionary and of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Standing Committee on Spoken English.

Pam Peters directs the Graduate Program in Editing and Publishing at Macquarie University, providing professional education in the form of a Postgraduate Certificate in Editing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing, and a Master of Editing and Publishing by dissertation. Her interests in editorial style are also expressed in her convenership of the Style Council conferences (held since 1986), and contributions to the sixth edition of the Australian government Style Manual (John Wiley 2002).
