About the author

David Crystal is one of the world's foremost authorities on language and has published over one hundred books. An internationally renowned writer, journal editor, lecturer and broadcaster, he received an OBE in 1995 for his services to the study and teaching of language and was made a Fellow of the British Academy in 2000. He is the patron of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language and president of the UK National Literacy Association.
