About the Authors
  • This volume of essays is concerned with the discrimination against older people that results from a failure to recognise their diversity. By considering the unique combinations of discrimination that arise from the interrelationship of age and gender, pensions, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic class and disability, the contributors demonstrate that the discrimination suffered is multiple in nature. It is the combination of these characteristics that leads to the need for more complex ways of tackling age discrimination.

    • Studies age discrimination in a way that recognises the diversity of older people and encourages age-related policy making to take this into account
    • Looks at a number of different older groups to show this diversity, thereby helping readers to appreciate the particular discrimination issues for groups such as older LGBTs, older women, older people with a disability and older ethnic groups
    • Multi-factored approach to discrimination encourages readers to appreciate that discrimination often takes place on multiple grounds and that tackling it therefore needs a multiple approach
