Think you know what the top 3 words will be for your team?
In the run up to the final, we’re pitting the fans against the professional pundits with the Cambridge Word Cup.
The People's Corpus
Enter the 3 words you think best describes your national side, and the research team here at Cambridge will see just how well the People’s Corpus matches this year’s Football Corpus!
If that’s not enough, we’re also partnering with United Through Sport (UTS); a charity dedicated to transforming children’s lives through the power of sport.
Each time 3 words are added to the ‘People’s Corpus’, we will be donating £1 to United Through Sport up to a total of £2,500.
Throughout this year’s FIFA World Cup ™, the Cambridge Language Research team will be putting the Cambridge English Corpus through its paces, tracking and analysing media reports to find out how we speak about each of the teams taking part in the tournament.
We’ll be building on the work we did last time around in 2014, where we collected over a whopping 8 million words into the Cambridge Football Corpus. Will we still be talking about Argentina’s ‘flair’, the ‘inexperienced’ English squad or the ‘focussed’ Germans? We’re going to find out!
