This four-book series provides students with a solid foundation in writing skills. After completing this series, students will be well-prepared to tackle academic essay writing. The approach assumes that even lower-level students can handle a full-blown process approach to writing. In each chapter, students work through a five-step composing process: Getting Started, Preparing the First Draft, Revising Your Writing, Editing Your Writing, and Following Up.
In Writers at Work, students learn how to:
- Use prewriting strategies to help gather and organize ideas
- Organize their writing with main ideas and supporting details
- Revise using a multi-drafting process approach
- Edit and proofread for common grammatical errors
Students learn how to produce accurate, topic-related sentences (From Sentence to Paragraph), well-crafted paragraphs (The Paragraph), well-structured short compositions (The Short Composition), and well-supported academic essays (The Essay).
