ELD/ELA Correlations

Cambridge Writing
ELD students cannot learn to write simply by reading. They need overt instruction in the process and conventions of writing; they need be exposed to good models at various stages in the writing process. Teachers can use the Cambridge Writing books to support students so that they will be equipped to write across the curriculum.

From Writing to Composing (Grades 9 to 10)
Writers at Work: The Short Composition (Grades 11 to 12)
Writers at Work: The Paragraph (Grades 9 to 10)
Writing from Within Intro (Grades 9 to 10)
Writing from Within (Grades 11 to 12)

Cambridge Grammar
These books are exceptionally easy to use and flexible; they can be used by students working independently in class or at home, or by the teachers to supplement lessons. These are the books teachers choose when selecting supplementary materials for their ELD students, who don't have that native-speaker intuition telling them what "sounds right." Discover a clear way to give students the structure they need!

Cambridge Reading
Do you read the phone book the same way you read a novel? How about a recipe? The best way to enhance ELD students' ability to succeed in content area classes is by teaching them skills and strategies to attack different types of texts and ways of coping with and learning unfamiliar vocabulary.
