Building Community

Each Ventures Student's Book is based on high-interest topics that reinforce the vocabulary and language your students need in their daily lives. Each of the Student's Books contains the same real-life unit themes: Personal information, At school, Friends and family, Health, Around Town, Time, Shopping, Work, Leisure, and Daily living. Review units focus on listening, grammar, and pronunciation.

The lessons in the Ventures Student's Book include:

Vocabulary — The opening picture at the beginning of every unit activates prior knowledge and introduces new vocabulary. The Picture Dictionary, in Levels 1, 2 and Basic, as well as the reading vocabulary activities, in Books 3 and 4, expand upon the topic, adding additional thematic vocabulary.

Grammar — The visual format of Ventures introduces grammar in small, accessible chunks. The two grammar lessons in each unit are unique because the grammar presented is selected to support the needs of the unit language.

Listening & Speaking — The listening and speaking exercises give students an opportunity to develop listening skills. The unit builds toward communicative activities.

Reading — Each Ventures reading has a reading strategy or skill connected to it. Ventures offers reading tips to make students better readers.

WritingVentures teaches students how to write through a guided-process approach. This includes prewriting, writing, and peer review. Ventures focuses on prewriting tasks, which lower students' anxiety about writing in English. In addition, writing for peer review creates a real-life context with accountability.

Document LiteracyVentures teaches life skills with a focus on community, family, and work.

Self-assessment — At the end of each unit, students are given an opportunity for both
peer- and self-assessment.

Review — The review units focus on listening, grammar, and pronunciation.
