Artistic Centers of the Italian Renaissance - Marcia B. Hall, Series EditorRichly illustrated volumes in this series will provide an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of Italian art at a pivotal moment in its history. Volumes in the series focus on several Italian city-states that were particularly active during the period 1300 - 1600 and chart their "rise and fall", in a drama that is often related to their political and economic fortunes. Each volume will examine regional visual traditions, the political, social and general cultural contexts in which art was created, patronage both corporate and individual, and changes in religious and devotional practices and in particular how these affected the form and content of art works. Volumes will cover all media, including painting, sculpture and architecture. An important aspect of these volumes is their emphasis on the decorative arts, including manuscript illumination, medals, cassoni and tapestries, which played a far more important role than has heretofore been acknowledged. Finally, these volumes will be designed and produced to the highest standards. Ranging from 400 - 450 pages in a large format, they will include a full illustration program of 250 halftones and 32 color plates. Click the thumbnails below for a high resolution image
