Cambridge University Press is the printing and publishing house of The University of Cambridge. The Press is a non-profit institution designed to promote the advancement of learning through publication of academic and educational books and journals.

The American Branch of Cambridge University Press is an equal opportunity, at-will employer. Founded in April 1949, it is an integral part of the Press and is not a separate publishing house. It serves North and South America. The American Branch employs a staff of over 285, and generates about a third of the Press's worldwide income. The head office of the American Branch is in New York City, and the distribution center is in West Nyack in suburban New York.

 

Chief Financial Officer

Cambridge University Press seeks an experienced Chief Financial Officer for the American Branch.

Reporting to the President of the Americas region, the successful candidate will provide financial and operational leadership for its American and Latin American operations. Playing a prominent role on the executive management team, you will be expected to make a significant contribution to the strategic development of the Press, including investment appraisal, evaluation of prospective acquisitions, opportunities for market diversification, and pension management. Managing a team of 16 people, you will also be expected to significantly contribute to business process improvement, and to modernize and enhance financial management information and systems, as well as implement the change.

Candidates should possess 10+ years' experience, and preferably a CPA, with a proven track record in leading the financial function of a complex international business. Entrepreneurial flair, commercial acumen, good communication skills, including a positive persuasive style, and a creative approach to problem solving are essential, as is an empathy with the academic objectives of the Press and the University. You should have the ability and ambition to take on a wider role at a future date.

The CFO is expected to work in both our New York City and West Nyack offices.
