The focus of this series is on the modern period of theatre; from the 1920s to the present day, with some studies also drawing comparisons with earlier periods. Books in the series examine European and world theatre, assessing the relationship of drama to the cultural and social environment in which it is written and produced and reflecting cross-cultural influences on the modern stage. Among the subjects covered are playwrights, rehearsal and production methods, agitprop, and performance art.
