Cambridge University Press and Editorial Edinumen to provide free professional development to language teachers

As part of a growing partnership to provide highly effective instructional materials and teaching techniques to language classrooms throughout the United States, Cambridge University Press and Editorial Edinumen are hosting a seven-month online Professional Development Program for Spanish instructors, which began last month and will run through May of 2015. The series is free and open to teachers of all levels.
The program focuses on helping teachers foster a more communicative classroom environment by utilizing an experiential learning approach. Each month, a different language acquisition specialist will pre-record a brief lecture and podcast covering an aspect of communicative teaching, which will then be available all month for teachers to watch and listen at any time. Each featured speaker will also publish an academic white paper and host a live virtual event, so that participants from all over North America can exchange ideas and ask questions about each month’s topic.

Victor Ramos, Marketing Director at Editorial Edinumen, expressed enthusiasm for the program, which builds on the strong professional development credentials of both publishers. 'The PDP is a tremendous experience, not only because of the high quality of the content, tools and resources, but also because there are already around 5,000 teachers sharing knowledge and classroom practices through the program. We are so enthusiastic about this result, because it proves once again that Spanish teachers have a great passion for their work, embrace creativity, and are eager to push themselves to keep learning and supporting their students.'
The featured speakers participating in the program include a wide range of language acquisition scholars, including Rose Potter from the University of Texas, Analí Fernández-Corbacho and Carmen Fonseca-Mora from the Universidad de Huelva, and Jane Arnold from the Universidad de Sevilla. Topics include strategies for making cultural content more engaging and relevant, getting students involved in interactive oral activities, and using images to make vocabulary more memorable.
Participation in the series will be tracked and certified by Cambridge University Press, so that teachers can earn up to 14 hours of certified professional development credit for participating in the program. Registration is open throughout the program, and all content will remain available until the series closes in May.
