Visiting our archives in Cambridge

The Assessment Archive is located at our global headquarters in Cambridge, UK.

Researchers are welcome to consult collections in person, by prior appointment, with no access charge. Requests to visit are subject to approval and visitors must provide information about their research and intended use of the records.

What’s available

As well as our archive collections, we also have some reference documentation available to browse in our reading room, including annual reports and statistics, and literature about educational assessment.

You can search our catalogued collections online at ArchiveSearch - a single point of access to archival catalogues held across Cambridge University.

We are not able to permit external parties the use of our past examination documents for any purpose other than non-commercial research, such as for training generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

Requesting copies

Where visits are not possible, we are able to provide copies of up to 20 documents for non-commercial research. We are also able to supply a copy of a past syllabus or specification for equivalation purposes.

Copies are subject to completion of a copyright declaration form and payment of a search and copy fee.

Orders for larger quantities require the written approval of the Group Archivist and are dependent on nature of research and use of copies, as well as available resources and condition of documentation. Such requests may take several weeks to complete. Archive staff are unable to carry out detailed searches for enquirers.
