Better reading for learners

Better reading for learners

Tuesday 24th July 2018 at 10am BST

About the webinar:

Most teachers agree that getting learners to read in English helps their language development. Reading can also be a key source of new information associated with learners’ interests. However, many students come from a language culture where oracy is prioritised over literacy so they are less motivated to read. Furthermore, the way that people read and the amount of text they read has changed in recent years as a result of Information Technology. This webinar aims to explore different approaches to getting learners to engage with texts and develop reading skills. It will outline ways that can lead to ‘better reading’ by means of text and task choice as well as a focus on useful reading strategies. A key principle that underpins the session is that better reading helps improve students’ overall language competence.
