Terms and Conditions

Competition Rules

By entering the Super Minds and Story fun-Cambridge Story Competition (“the Competition”), you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. The Competition is run by The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Cambridge, acting through its departments, Cambridge University Press and Cambridge Assessment (“Cambridge”).

  1. The Competition is open to any individual over the age of eighteen (18), who is a teacher at a school or other educational institution. Permission from the school or other educational institution is required to enter the Competition.

  2. The Competition begins on 1 January 2018 at 00:00 GMT and closes on 30 April 2018 at 23:59 GMT (“the Competition Period”). Entries received before commencement of or after the expiry of the Competition Period will not be valid for entry into the Competition and will be disregarded by Cambridge, but data may still be used in accordance with these terms and conditions and any terms or consents set out on the registration form.

  3. Only one entry per student will be accepted. Internet access is required in order to participate in the Competition.

  4. No purchase is necessary.

  5. In order to enter the Competition, you must upload the completed worksheet PDFs at and complete the registration form with all required details and press submit. Incomplete entries and any entries deemed by Cambridge to be inappropriate for any reason will not be accepted.

  6. Entrants agree that all material and information, including biographical details provided (the “Entry Materials”) shall:

(i) be true and accurate;

(ii) be entirely original to the entrant and has not been published elsewhere; and

(iii) shall not infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights or any other rights of any other person or organisation.

  1. Each entrant assigns the full copyright, and all other similar intellectual property rights, subsisting in the Entry Materials to Cambridge, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

  2. Entrants waive all moral rights in respect of the Entry Materials under the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and, so far as is legally possible, any broadly equivalent rights it may have in any territory of the world. 

  3. There will be twelve (12) individual outright winners who will be chosen after the end of the Competition Period (“the Outright Winners”). These will be chosen by a panel of three (3) judges appointed from within Cambridge’s organisation, who will judge on the use of materials and creativity.  There will also be three (3) Monthly ‘Top Stories’ (“Monthly Winners”) for each month of the Competition Period. Monthly Winners are eligible to be chosen as Outright Winners, although this is not guaranteed.

  4. All the Outright Winners and Monthly Winners will be publicly announced via social media channels (“Social Media Channels”) within thirty (30) days of the winners being notified that they have won and appear on the ELT blog site:

  1. Cambridge’s decision is final. Once selected, winners will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  2. Only winning entries will be contacted.  Winners will need to supply Cambridge with their postal address to receive the prize.

  3. The prizes are as follows:The name of each winner and the prize won may be requested and will be made available upon receipt by Cambridge of a self-addressed, pre-paid envelope.

    1. Monthly Top Story prize: Digital publication of their story on the World of Better Learning blog.

    2. Outright Winner prize: Two (2) official printed and bound books containing all the 12x winning stories with accompanying illustrations. 1x Winner’s classroom pack: Pack contains: certificate of participation, mini whiteboard and an array of Better Learning branded materials. Units of each supplied will vary depending on class size and as specified in entry form.

    3. The Outright Winners will be selected thirty (30) days after the end of the Competition Period. Monthly Winners will be selected at the end of each month during the period 01 January 2018- 30 April 2018. Cambridge shall notify each of the Outright Winners and Monthly Winners that they have won a prize directly by email. Should any Outright Winner or Monthly Winner not respond or provide the necessary information required to process the prize as set out in Cambridge’s notifying email within fourteen (14) days of the date of that email, the prize shall be forfeited and a replacement Outright Winner or Monthly Winner will be selected.

    4. One of the Outright Winners, and possibly one or more of the Monthly Winners, will be selected to have their submission turned into a story video, which will be published on the CambridgeUPELT YouTube channel. ( ) as well as the ‘World of Fun’ exams webpage. (  

  4. The prizes are non-transferrable and cannot be exchanged by the winner for cash or credit or any other product.  There is no cash alternative.

  5. To the extent permitted by law, Cambridge accepts no liability in respect of the prizes. They are supplied “as is” with no express guarantee or warranty as to their suitability or quality. Cambridge accepts no responsibility for any costs associated with the prize that are not expressly included in the description of the prize.  

  6. If local delivery of any prize is unavailable or not possible, Cambridge reserves the right to cancel any winning entry and choose a replacement winner. Please allow at least ninety (90) days for delivery of the prizes, unless otherwise stated.

  7. No bulk, third party or automated entries permitted or those submitted via macros or similar. Cambridge may disallow entries, refuse to award any prize, or seek its recovery, in the event of an entrant's fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement under these terms and conditions.

  8. By entering this Competition you agree, if selected as a winner, to participate in all related publicity as may reasonably be requested by Cambridge, including but not limited to: press, print and online publicity (which will include publication of your name and may include a photograph of you).

  9. Cambridge accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed or rendered invalid due to incorrect participant data, lack of network coverage, system, software or hardware failure or for any other reason beyond its control. Entries that are not submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions and/or that are delayed, damaged, incomplete, altered, illegible or otherwise defective will be disqualified.

  10. Your personal information : By entering the Competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with the Competition entry may be held and used by Cambridge or its agents and suppliers to administer the Competition.

  11. Cambridge will not sell your personal information to others or release it to others without your prior consent, and will only use your personal data as outlined in Cambridge’s privacy policy (

  13. The Competition is run by Cambridge and is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administrated by or associated with the Social Media Channels.

  14. The Competition is not open to employees of Cambridge, their agents or contractors and anyone else connected with the Competition.

  15. If there is a conflict between these terms and conditions and any other terms whatsoever attached to any other advertising material in respect of the Competition, these terms and conditions will apply.

  16. Cambridge reserves the right to cancel the Competition at any time. No correspondence will be entered into.

The Competition and these terms and conditions (including any non-contractual disputes or claims arising out of them) are subject to English law and any disputes or claims must be referred to English courts.
