Cambridge author scoops 2013 Royal Society Milner Award

Cambridge University Press author Serge Abiteboul has been awarded the coveted Royal Society Milner Award in recognition of his world leading database research with significant scientific and industrial impact.

The Milner Award, supported by Microsoft Research, is given annually for outstanding achievement in computer science by a European researcher and is named in honour of Professor Robin Milner FRS (1934-2010), a pioneer in computer science.

The recipient is chosen by the Council of the Royal Society on the recommendation of the Milner Award Committee. The Committee is made up of Fellows of the Royal Society, Members of the Académie des sciences and Members of Leopoldina (Germany).

The winner of the award receives a medal and a personal prize of £5,000 and is invited to deliver a public lecture on their research at the Society.

Serge Abiteboul is a researcher at INRIA Saclay and ENS Cachan and co-founder of the start-up Xyleme. His co-authored book, Web Data Management, was published by the Press in 2012.

Serge will deliver a public lecture about his databases research on November 12th. The talk will take place from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Royal Society's main offices in London.
