About the Authors
  • First published in 1938, as the fourth edition of a 1916 original, this book forms part one of a three-volume series on the area of architectural building construction. The text presents an elementary course of instruction regarding the process of construction, encouraging the student to treat each element of structure as a unit in a complete scheme. Potential problems are also raised, including those arising from choice and suitability of site, selection of materials, building bylaws, and harmony in the detail and conception of structure. Numerous illustrative figures are incorporated throughout. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the history of architecture and the building process.
