Das Bild des Kaisers
Originally published in 1889, this is an edition of Wilhelm Hauff's novel Das Bild des Kaisers by the Cambridge scholar, and the University's first Lecturer in German, Karl Breul. The present edition contains an English introduction with a brief account of Hauff's life and works, as well as a short sketch of Napolean's career to give some context to the allusions of the novel. The volume also contains copious English notes, for various classes of readers, intended to assist with difficult portions of the text and to draw attention to points of special interest.
