Your Textbook vs. College and Career Readiness Standards

This webinar, facilitated by Ventures authors Donna Price and Gretchen Bitterlin, provides participants with a brief overview of the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRs). The presenters share a checklist they have developed by reviewing the anchor standards in the CCRs and selecting those anchor standards especially crucial to speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for adult ESL students. The webinar includes examples of activities that develop the skills identified on the checklist.
Donna Price is currently Associate Professor of ESL and Vocational ESL/Technology Resource Instructor for the Continuing Education Program, San Diego Community College District. She is a recipient of the TESOL Newbury House Award for Excellence in Teaching, and she is author of Skills for Success. Donna holds an MA in Linguistics from San Diego State University.
Gretchen Bitterlin has been an ESL teacher and an ESL department chair. She is currently the ESL coordinator for the Continuing Education Program at San Diego Community College District. She is a co-author of English for Adult Competency, has been an item writer for CASAS tests, and chaired the task force that developed the TESOL Adult Education Program Standards. She is a recipient of her district’s award, Outstanding Contract Faculty. Gretchen holds an MA in TESOL from the University of Arizona.
