Teaching Your Subject in English

There are many different types of bilingual programmes around the world and they are becoming more and more popular in Brazil. They can range from full immersion to short 30–50-minute subject lessons in the target language.

In some programmes subjects are taught by subject specialists and in others by language teachers. But what does it take to teach subjects in a foreign language? In this presentation we aim to build your confidence to use English ef-fectively to teach your subject lessons, whether you teach maths, science, history or another subject. Topics include:
• language to get your learners interested, motivated, and engaged in your lesson content
• language to help you develop your learners’ thinking skills
• language to check learning
• and more ...

This presentation is for anyone who uses or will start using English as an instructional language in subject lessons.
