  • Richard Clogg está reconocido internacionalmente como uno de los historiadores más importantes de la Grecia moderna. En 1830 Grecia se convirtió en el primer país del este de Europa en conseguir plena independencia, y en 1981 fue el primero en ser admitido en la Comunidad Europea. No es sólo la herencia cristiana ortodoxa y la influencia de los siglos bajo la hegemonía otomana lo que o la hacen diferente, sino que además grandes movimientos históricos como el Renacimiento, la Reforma, la Ilustración y las revoluciones francesa e industrial, de tan marcada influencia en el Occidente europeo, apenas dejaron huella en Grecia. Ello ha tenido como consecuencia una sociedad y un modelo de desarrollo histórico claramente distintos de los de sus vecinos de la Europa occidental. Este libro ofrece una introducción histórica sucinta e ilustrada de la Grecia moderna, desde finales del siglo XVIII con los inicios del movimiento nacional hasta nuestros días.
