    Originally published in 1923, this book contains an English translation of the first book of the Irenicum of John Forbes, in which he defends the Five Articles of Perth, which were instituted under the Stuart kings in order to bring the Church of Scotland into line with Anglican religious practice. Selwyn provides a detailed introduction to the historical, biographical and literary background of Forbes' work, as well as appendices in which Forbes' ideas are more thoroughly analysed and explained. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Scottish Christianity or the work of John Forbes.
