A Sincere Thanks to Our Parasitology Reviewers

It takes a lot of people to publish an issue of Parasitology. Each year the journal successfully publishes 14 issues, with over 170 papers contained therein. Essential, of course, are our dedicated authors but there are also many “behind-the-scenes” people crucial in making sure we disseminate high quality research into the public domain (on that note, watch out for exciting upcoming news on how Parasitology will soon flip to Open Access only production!). This includes our production and editorial teams, and of course, our anonymous reviewers. Here we would like to take a moment to sincerely thank all our reviewers for their services to the journal, our authors, and to science in general.

Whilst many authors perhaps shudder at the thought of sending their precious manuscript to unknown persons for critical review, and humorous parodies exist on Twitter of “Reviewer 2″ or even “Reviewer 3”, feedback from external anonymous peer-review is crucial to maintaining unbiased high quality research. We understand that reviewing a paper for Parasitology is no easy task. It may involve sharing detailed knowledge on the specific topic as well as formative advice on how to structure a clear and concise manuscript.

All at Cambridge University Press are therefore very grateful to each of the 412 people who donated their time willingly to review for Parasitology in 2021. Indeed, it is a real privilege for our authors to have such expertise on call from over 400 scientists from more than 300 institutes across 63 countries worldwide (representing all continents bar Antarctica!). Thank you, once again, for making peer-review publication in Parasitology possible!

We would also like to take a moment to thank Dr. Joel Barratt for his beautiful artwork being used as the cover image for the 2022 issues of Parasitology (featured below). With the recent introduction to the journal of graphical abstracts we have been very impressed with the artwork that our authors have produced, and look forward to opening a competition for the 2023 cover artwork later in the year. Watch out for more details in the near future!
