The new directive provides helpful alignment with the United States and Europe, where the adoption of Plan S has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of research being published open access. This, combined with the recent adoption of the open science recommendations from UNESCO, brings the prospect of free, worldwide access to publicly-funded research much closer.

Open research – and the increased reach and impact it brings – is at the heart of delivering our mission and that of our university ‘to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning and research at the highest international levels of excellence.’ We have already committed to making the majority of our research publishing fully open access by 2025, having led the way by working with institutions across the United States on transformative publishing agreements that get research out from behind paywalls.

This new policy from the OSTP now promises a leap forward in the speed of transition to open research in the United States. It is a logical and timely next step from its previous announcement in 2013 and we look forward to working in partnership with federal agencies, our publishing partners and the broader community, to make it a success.

Find out more about Cambridge Open

The new policy from the OSTP promises a leap forward in the speed of transition to open research in the United States.

[7979,4955
45,4733,6930,10178
6262
post-49881","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-discover-cambridge","category-open-research","tag-open-access","tag-open-research","tag-read-publish","tag-transformative-agreements
["GET
