I was attracted to the organization because of its international outlook and its worldwide reputation. I worked my way up in CS to become a Key Account Manager, looking after high profile portfolios. I didn’t necessarily know what my next steps were, but when I saw the vacancy for HE Sales Executive for Northern Europe, I knew I had to apply!

I have a few connections to the region and find it really interesting, so getting to work with professors every day from that area, and especially getting the chance to travel and meet in person, really attracted me. I was ready for a new challenge and, so far, I’m getting that!

What excites you the most about working with Higher Ed institutions as a sales rep?

As I’m relatively new to the role, I think I’m really looking forward to the diversity of it all. Our textbooks span across so many different subject areas, and in just one day you could cover any number of these in meetings/calls with professors! It will be really useful to pick up bits of knowledge as I go, which in turn will allow me to develop my skills in recommending the right textbooks to the right people.

How do you stay updated on the latest trends and developments in the education industry to better serve your Higher Education institutions?

I speak German, so I try to keep up with local news as much as possible. I’m also subscribed to The Bookseller newsletters, so get regular updates from there. Otherwise, it is really beneficial to be part of such an experienced team with a wealth of HE knowledge – I’m always learning new things from my colleagues!

In your opinion, what makes the Cambridge approach to Higher Education textbooks, materials and learning resources special?

I think our reputation is our biggest strength. People hear “Cambridge” and know that they are in safe hands. Otherwise, I think that we do a good job of keeping things fresh, whether that’s by updating our textbooks, or introducing new formats such as the exciting Mishkin/Perloff “Principles of Economics” project.

I also think our authors are really special. With my own eyes I’ve seen authors respond to professors and offer their support, which shows their commitment to supporting Higher Education learning through textbooks.

If you could have any superpower to help you in your sales role, what would it be and why?

A photographic memory would be great! I’m slowly learning our catalogue, but it would be a real advantage to have every single detail of our textbooks memorised.

What’s your guilty pleasure when it comes to snacks or treats during a long day of meetings?

The canteen on the Cambridge site sell a Biscoff Tiffin – it’s basically a solid chunk of chocolate with swirls of Biscoff spread on top! It’s a dentist’s worst nightmare but absolutely my go-to to get me through a long day. If you see them for sale, absolutely buy one – but make sure you save one for me!

What’s Next?

Get to know our other Higher Education Sales Representatives from across the globe!

Contact your sales representative to learn about new textbooks and how we can support your teaching

Sign up for Cambridge Alerts and stay up-to-date on the latest releases

Bailey supports instructors throughout Northern Europe Get in contact with Bailey at: Email: bailey.shipp@cambridge.org Mobile: +44 (0)7549 935540 Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you ended up in the world of sales?
