FADDEN, ACT (fad-dĕn), a southern suburb (pop. 2929) of the City of canberra to the east of wanniassa (map 22A:B6). It was named after Sir Arthur Fadden, briefly Prime Minister of Australia (1941), and Federal Treasurer 1949–58.
FAIRBAIRN DAM, Qld (fair-bairn), a storage on the nogoa river (map 5) used by the emerald Irrigation Area. It was named after Sir George Fairbairn, pastoralist and politician.
FAIRFIELD, NSW, a city (pop. 153 522) and suburb in the west of metropolitan sydney (map 26:C3) named by Captain John Horsley in 1840 after Fairfield in Somerset, England. Fairfield became a municipality in 1888 and a city in 1979. Other suburbs in the city include abbotsbury, bonnyrigg, bossley park, Cabramatta West, Canley Heights, canley vale, carramar, edensor park, Fairfield Heights, Fairfield West, greenfield park, lansvale, prairiewood, st johns park, wakeley and wetherill park. Parts of cecil park, guildford, mount pritchard, old guildford, smithfield and yennora are also within the city boundaries.
FAIRFIELD, Qld, an inner southern riverside suburb of the City of brisbane to the south-east of indooroopilly (map 23:B4).
FAIRFIELD, Vic, an inner north-eastern Melbourne suburb in the City of northcote (map 25:C3). It was named after a town in Derbyshire, England.
FAIRLIGHT, NSW (fair-light), a northern harbourside Sydney suburb in manly Municipality (map 26:G2). Its name comes from ‘Fairlight House’, built there in the 1850s by H. G. Smith and demolished in 1939.
