Summary

Chapter 13 fleshed out a revisionist conception of human dignity. It tried to show how well that conception resonates with archetypes of human dignity and indignity familiar in ordinary reflection and political culture. However, a convincing defense of the revisionist approach requires more than this. The revisionist must still explain why human dignity on their construal can usefully inform critical reflection on politics. The diagnosis of the holocaust given at the end of Chapter 13 may have offered some promising hints in that direction, but it is not enough by itself.
