An Iron Age Mirror from Ruxox, Maulden, Bedfordshire

Abstract

This short note puts on record three fragments of an Iron Age decorated mirror found in 1998 in a field near Ruxox Farm, in the parish of Maulden, Bedfordshire, the fifth such mirror to be recorded from that county. The significance of the find is discussed within the context of the overall archaeology of the Ruxox area and compared to other mirror finds from the region.

Cette courte note consigne trois fragments d'un miroir décoré de l’âge du fer découvert en 1998 dans un champ près de Ruxox Farm, dans la paroisse de Maulden, Bedfordshire, le cinquième miroir de ce genre noté en provenance de ce comté. L'importance de la découverte est discutée dans le contexte de l'ensemble de l'archéologie des alentours de Ruxox.

Diese kurze Notiz dokumentiert den Fund von drei Bruchstücken eines Spiegels aus der Eisenzeit, welche 1998 in einem Feld in der Nähe der Ruxox Farm in der Gemeinde von Maulden, Bedfordshire, gefunden wurden. Es handelt sich dabei um den fünften derartiger Spiegel, die aus dieser Grafschaft dokumentiert sind. Die Bedeutung dieses Fundes wird im Zusammenhang mit der allgemeinen Archäologie der Gegend um Ruxox diskutiert.
