The global energy transition depends not only on technological innovation and policy ambition but also on the resilience, sustainability, and transparency of supply chains that underpin clean energy systems. From critical minerals for batteries and wind turbines to solar panels, electric vehicle components, and hydrogen infrastructure, energy supply chains are increasingly complex, geographically concentrated, and vulnerable to disruptions from geopolitical shocks, climate hazards, and systemic risks.
At the same time, these supply chains themselves generate significant environmental and social footprints, including carbon emissions, resource depletion, and labour concerns. Achieving net-zero goals therefore requires a fundamental rethinking of how energy-related supply chains are designed, managed, and governed—integrating circular economy principles, data-driven risk assessment, and cross-sectoral collaboration.
This themed collection brings together interdisciplinary research on sustainable, resilient, and just supply chains for energy transitions. We invite contributions that examine supply chain risk management, organisational complexity, circular economy strategies, and multi-stakeholder innovation ecosystems. We particularly encourage work that applies data-driven decision-making, Bayesian and neutrosophic approaches, and empirical case studies from Global North and South contexts.
We invite research articles, reviews, perspectives, rapid communications and case studies addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Supply chain risk and resilience for critical minerals and clean energy technologies
- Carbon emissions measurement and reduction across energy supply chain life cycles
- Circular economy and net-zero strategies in energy infrastructure and manufacturing
- Data-driven decision-making for sustainable energy supply chain management
- Organisational complexity and internal visibility of external supplier risks
- Business and innovation ecosystems for emerging energy technologies
- Inter-organisational collaboration and knowledge transfer in clean energy supply chains
- Open innovation, business models, and open standards for energy transition supply chains
- Comparative case studies of energy supply chain governance across Europe, North America, and Asia
- Public perspectives and social acceptance of energy supply chain siting and logistics
- Resilience of vaccine, food, and energy supply chains under systemic shocks (lessons for energy)
