The author points out that there is some confusion of ideas as to the relation between idiocy and epilepsy in the cases where the two conditions are associated. Recently the tendency has been more and more to attribute epileptic idiocy to pathological processes in fótal and infant life. For cases where this explanation is not admissible, it is still suggested that the fits are the cause of the mental arrest.
