In collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University as part of their Radiotherapy and Oncology CPD provision, the Editorial Board are delighted to announce a new initiative for the Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice (JRP). We are starting a new webinar series giving selected authors of publications in the JRP the opportunity to participate in a webinar of their work (facilitated by members of the Editorial Board) free of charge. Authors will be invited to give a short presentation of their work followed by questions from the audience.

Paper title: Dosimetric impacts on skin toxicity for patients using topical agents and dressings in radiotherapy

Authors: Lyndon Morley, Karen Tse, Angela Cashell, Annette Sperduti, Maurene McQuestion and James Chow

Summary: This paper was first published in the December 2016 issue of the Journal and is concerned with skin care advice for patients who are receiving radiotherapy. In this paper, the authors present their research on the dosimetric impacts on skin toxicity for patients using topical agents and dressings during radiotherapy. 

The Webinar will be introduced by Professor Heidi Probst from Sheffield Hallam University, followed by author Lyndon Morley, who will undertake a 20 minute presentation on his paper, followed by a 25 minute session for you to pose questions and open up a debate on the subject.

Paper title: A development framework for the consultant radiographer in oncology: the Leeds experience

Author: Neill Roberts

Summary: In this third paper featured in the series, the author Neill Roberts presents a case study focussing on the local experience of developing a suitable competency framework for the first Consultant Radiographer at the Leeds Cancer Centre. It highlights elements of the framework that equip the post holder to carry out the role and how the governance underpinning such a framework could be used by other radiotherapy centres across the United Kingdom. The webinar will be introduced by Professor Heidi Probst, followed by the author who undertakes a 20 minute presentation of the paper with a question session and time for debate on the subject following.

Paper title: Exploration of risk factors for weight loss in head and neck cancer patients

Authors: Patrick Dawson, Amy Taylor and Chris Bragg

Summary: In this first paper featured in the webinar series, authors Dawson, Taylor and Bragg, present their research into the exploration of risk factors for weight loss in head and neck cancer patients. Head and neck cancer patients receiving radiotherapy can experience a number of toxicities, including weight loss and malnutrition, which can impact upon the quality of treatment. The purpose of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate weight loss and identify predictive factors for this patient group. 40 patients treated with radiotherapy since 2012 at the study centre were selected for analysis.
