Marine Biodiversity Records

The Marine Biological Association is pleased to announce that from January 1st 2022 Marine Biodiversity Records will be merging with the Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom (JMBA). The JMBA will therefore be extending its scope to accept original research articles which document and review changes in geographical ranges of marine species, including the effects of the introduction of novel or alien species to marine ecosystems, and of taxonomic studies relevant to these changes. These Marine Record articles can now be submitted to JMBA at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jmba.

FAQs

Will articles previously published in MBR still be available as Open Access (OA)?

Yes, all papers will continue to be permanently available online and will be OA per the terms of the Creative Commons license under which they were published.

Can I still submit to MBR?

MBR is now closed to new submissions. Authors of Marine Record articles should now submit these to JMBA at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jmba.

My manuscript is in review at MBR. What options do I have for publication?

Articles accepted by November 12 2021 can still be published in MBR in 2021. Those articles will continue to be available online in perpetuity. Authors can also choose to withdraw their article from MBR and transfer their submission to JMBA, and the Editors of JMBA will then take on responsibility for the remainder of the peer review process. If you wish to transfer your manuscript to JMBA, please contact the MBR Editorial Office at luciana.christantedemello@springer.com.

Will Marine Record articles submitted to JMBA be published on an Open Access basis?

The JMBA is a ‘hybrid’ journal with both standard and OA publishing options, so the opportunity to publish articles as OA is still available. Please click here for further details about hybrid OA.

Are there any publication fees for JMBA?

There are no fees for publishing in JMBA, unless you choose to publish your article as gold Open Access. In that case, payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC) will be required. For authors who submitted to MBR before 30 September 2021 and subsequently choose to transfer to JMBA, we will honor the MBR APC of £760/$1025 for Marine Record articles and £1290/$1870 for all other article types. Authors may be eligible to have their APC covered under an OA agreement with their institution; use our online tool to check if you are eligible.

Is JMBA compliant with the principles of Plan S?

JMBA is registered with cOAlition S as a Transformative Journal, and so authors can be compliant with Plan S by choosing to publish their article as gold Open Access under a CC-BY license. For more information about choosing gold OA, see our hybrid journal FAQs.

Where is JMBA indexed?

JMBA is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Scopus, Proquest and EBSCO, amongst other major indexing agencies. The journal receives both Impact Factor and CiteScore metrics.
